NYC Mom Replaces Car With Electric Bike
In bustling New York City where time is precious and traffic is a constant challenge, finding an efficient and sustainable mode of transportation becomes essential, especially for parents. One mother, Caroline, who initially had reservations about eBikes, discovered a life-changing solution for her daily commute with her two young daughters.
Caroline’s daily routine involves shuttling her daughters to and from school, covering a distance of about a mile and a half. “It’s so amazing and it’s so much more fun to do. I love the way that we interact with the world on the bike,” Caroline reflects. Initially resistant to the idea of an eBike, Caroline had her eyes set on a cargo bike as the preferred mode of transportation for her family. It was her husband who persuaded her to give the eBike a try, and now she can’t imagine going back. The electric function has become an indispensable feature of her daily routine, making trips to school, the park, and the museum a breeze.
“I personally kind of thought the electric function was unnecessary but I was willing to give it a try. Now that we have it, I use the electric function all the time. It makes it easy and I don’t even break a sweat when I am taking the girls to and from school, when I’m taking them to the park, or when I’m taking them to the museum. That’s not the case when I’m getting them around in any other way”, she explains.
“When we had a regular bike it was just a lot harder. It was a lot more managing things. Stopping and going was harder. This is just one of those things where you can just reduce the tension point of parenting. It’s just so much easier”, she explains.
Expressing a disdain for cars and the stress associated with driving in the city, this mom sees the eBike as a superior alternative. Beyond personal preference, her choice is driven by a commitment to sustainability. The eBike has become a solution to the inefficiencies and environmental impact of traditional cars.
Living in alignment with personal values is challenging, especially in parenting where waste is often unavoidable. However, for Caroline, the eBike represents a tangible way to demonstrate and instill values in her children. By choosing a healthy, eco-friendly mode of transportation, she sets an example for her daughters, showing them that making choices that benefit the world can be an integral part of their everyday lives.
“Since I’ve got an electric bike, I want everybody to have one,” she advocates. In her view, eBikes offer a sustainable transportation answer to the congestion and time-consuming nature of city life, providing an easy and fast way to navigate urban landscapes while contributing to a healthier planet.
