Our standards, and why we care enough to have them…
At Propel, we sell a curated collection of eBikes: only those that meet our high standards for quality, safety, and longevity.

Propel is selective about the eBikes we sell.
Electric bikes are a new market, with many options. It can feel confusing: what even constitutes a good eBike?
We’ve been in the business for a while now, and have figured out what we believe is important in an eBike:
We want eBikes to be on the road, not in the shop. So we choose high-quality bikes, with high-quality, brand-name, identifiable parts.
We want eBikes to bring joy, not complication. So we prioritize bikes that are easy to ride, and do what you want them to. Do you want a little pedal-assist? It’s there. No help? Your choice. The electric assist makes it easier to bring along anyone and anything you like.
We want eBikes to be safe. This means batteries and motors that are certified to the UL standard. Brakes that are more than sufficient to compensate for extra speed, torque, and weight. Frame design and racks that are designed and tested to support the weight of hauling kids, groceries, dogs, or worktools.
Propel also services the bikes we sell, so we prioritize manufacturers with good warranties, who use identifiable and replaceable parts and components. The result is a small, curated collection of brands and bikes that we both sell and service. The selection has changed over time, too, based on your feedback and our experiences
Why does this matter? Because many eBikes are being produced and sold that don’t last. That haven’t been thoroughly tested. That don’t have a replacement charger readily available in the U.S. Or, even if the bike is reparable and under some form of warranty, it will take months for a replacement part to arrive from somewhere.
What’s more, we have Matchmakers on staff who listen to your needs and wants and help you find the eBikes that will be the best fit for you—for years to come.
We work with reputable manufacturers and brands.
The eBike industry is young, but many eBike companies have already shuttered or retreated from the US, leaving dealers and customers without access to parts, replacement batteries, or chargers. Some eBikes have been deemed unsafe: under-specified brakes are one problem; fires caused by non-UL batteries combined with faulty electrical outlets are another.
We try to avoid these issues by choosing manufacturers that are committed to safety and to supporting customers for the life of their bike.
We want to be able to stand behind the products we sell, and support our customers as long as they need, so they can feel confident investing in a new product and a new experience.
There can be a financial cost associated with this, unfortunately: an eBike’s price is the sum of its components, so those brand-name, replaceable, reparable parts are often more expensive. To offset this, Propel has found two high-quality financing options to help those who may choose to finance all or a portion of their purchase.
